ACADEMICS -

What educational opportunities does Carroll offer off-campus? Great professional internships are available at local businesses, government offices and the local hospital.
Study Abroad
to countries in the Far East (including Japan, Thailand and China), Africa, Central and South America and Europe.

Exchange programs are available with Kumamoto-Gakuen University in Japan, Caen University in France and Cheju National University in Korea.

In addition, Carroll offers an extensive slate of Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) summer internships allowing students to work on cutting-edge science both here at Carroll and at colleges and universities throughout the United States. Some of our REU students have already been published in the world’s foremost scientific literature for REU research contributions. In addition, through our membership in the Montana Space Grant Consortium, Carroll students can obtain summer science and engineering internships at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Which pre-professional programs does Carroll offer? Pre-Med, Pre-Law, Pre-Veterinary, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Optometry, Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-seminary, plus a 3-2 Engineering program allowing math majors at Carroll to attend Carroll for three years then select and transfer to one of seven affliliated engineering schools for two years of study, which earns them a bachelor’s degree from Carroll and another bachelor’s from the selected engineering school. The 3-2 affiliated schools include Columbia University, Notre Dame, University of Southern California, University of Minnesota, Gonzaga University, Montana Tech and Montana State University.

Does Carroll have a graduate school?
No. Carroll is a 4-year undergraduate college exclusively.

CATHOLIC AFFILIATION

What is different about attending a Catholic college? In addition to taking religion courses as part of the core curriculum, Carroll is committed to producing socially conscious and ethical graduates grounded in strong values -- no matter what religious background. Courses and clubs offer service opportunities and we have guest speakers on moral and theological topics. Religious services offer our students a supportive and welcoming environment in which they can explore and strengthen their spirituality.

ATHLETICS -

Which sports can I play at Carroll? Our intercollegiate athletic teams belong to the Frontier Conference, affiliated with the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and include the following sports:

MEN'S SPORTS- Golf- Basketball- Football

Are there intramural activities and other forms of athletics on campus? Plenty. The list changes each year, but this year we had intramural football, basketball, volleyball, racquetball, kickboxing, softball, bowling, ultimate Frisbee and folf. On campus, ballet and tai chi classes are also available free of charge.

Does Carroll have good workout facilities? The Carroll PE Center has a fully-equipped fitness center, a 25-yard swimming pool, handball/racquetball courts, weight training rooms and a spacious gym. Admission to the PE Center is free to all students.

What other kinds of sports can I do on my own at or near Carroll? Almost anything. For hiking and mountain biking, the choices are endless, from Mount Helena, located within 3-5 driving minutes of campus, to millions of acres of state and national forest lands surrounding Helena and blanketing the entire state. Excellent rock climbing, downhill and cross country skiing, fly-fishing, whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing and backcountry camping lie within 30-60 minutes of campus.

RESIDENCE LIFE

Are there coed residence halls on campus? Yes, all residence halls are co-ed.

How long do you have to live on campus? Housing is available for four years. The first two years are required.

Can I get Internet access from my residence hall room? Yes

How safe is the campus? Helena is one of the safest places to live, with a crime rate 5 times less than the national average. Carroll is extremely safe, with locked resident halls, night desk workers in all residential facilities and security patrols at night.

Does Carroll have any fraternities or sororities? No, except for academic fraternities.

Can I have a car on campus? Yes.

How many students live on campus? 702.

CLUBS AND EVENTS -

What different clubs are offered to students on campus? A huge variety, with everything from Art, Theatre and Astronomy clubs to Rock Climbing and Outdoor Adventure groups to Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology and other academic specialty organizations.

Campus Ministry at Carroll is very active. Political groups-campus Democrats and Republicans-plus organizations promoting Environmental Activism and Recycling (SAVE), Social Justice (SJS), International Students (OASIS) and Public Service (FACES) offer something for everyone.

Students are welcome to participate in politically in Student Government, the student senate and residence hall councils.

Become a reporter for the campus newspaper (Prospector) and/or submit pen prose and poetry for Carroll’s literary magazine (Colors) which are all open to students. There is also the famous Carroll Crazies Sports Fan Club and the Pep Band.

What kinds of on-campus events does Carroll sponsor? Concerts, lectures, dances, comedians, international food festivals, a huge spring softball tournament, hayrides, just to name a few, and most are free to Carroll students.

The student government, ASCC, sponsors monthly free ice skating and broom hockey nights after the local Helena Ice Arena hockey games, free bowling nights, free movie nights and free coffee nights with musical entertainment both on and off campus.

Carroll Unplugged performances and Piano Night showcases Carroll talent for the entire community. Home games for our sports teams rock the packed PE Center. In the past year, Carroll has hosted several bands (The Clumsy Lovers, Paradym and Crispin to name a few) and the college performing arts department typically produces four Plays each academic year for the entire campus and Helena communities, with admission free to Carroll students. Dances occurring throughout the academic year include the annual one at Homecoming, the Set-Up Your Roomate (SYR) dance, the Barn Dance and the dance at the spring Junior-Senior banquet, among others.

The campus observatory is open several days each month for astronomical viewing through the large-aperture telescope. Religious retreats, scripture study and Masses are available daily.
