Carroll College is 100 years old, and it will be a grand celebration!


"A Night of One Acts"

 

Date Thursday Dec 10, 7 pm in the Merton Studio. On this night theatre students in the Play Direction class present their final project. The actual titles of the works will be printed in the program available that night. This is a wonderful night of theatre, where our students get to shine.  No admission charged. Please don't miss this exciting event.


"Choreography Recital"

Date Saturday Dec 12,  7 pm in the PAC. Choreography students select music, dancers, and then the magic begins. Always a wonderful creative high energy night of dance. Don't miss this. No admission charged.


Centennial Showcase: "Hamlet"

by Wm Shakespeare, February 5 & 6 @ 7 pm, Sunday Feb 7 @ 3 pm in the PAC. Guest Director Katie Wright directs a Senior Showcase Project for Bryan Ferriter as Hamlet, with other Carroll students. This is an edited version of Shakespeare's classic tale of revenge. Carroll College last presented Hamlet in 1994.


RMTA Festivention

Feb 10-13th. Carroll joins with our friends from Grandstreet Theatre to bring The Rocky Mountain Theatre Association to Helena. Carroll is happy to serve as hosts for the Youth Festival, for high school students. The Festival is s movable feast of theatrical offerings. A week of workshops, guest artists, and a variety of shows at theatres throughout Helena.


Centennial Mainstage - "A Piece of My Heart"


by Shirley Lauro. March 18 -20 & 25-27 @ 7 pm. Sunday Matinees @ 3 pm on March 21 & 28. Presented at the Old North Performing Arts Center. The tale of a true drama of six women who went to Viet Nam, five nurses and a country western singer. The play portrays each young woman before, during, and after her tour of duty in the war torn jungle and ends as each leaves a personal token at The Wall in Washington. The selection of this play was inspired by the Carroll College Nursing Program and by Captain Diane Carlson Evans, U.S. Army Nurse Corps, R.N., the founder of the Vietnam Women's Memorial Foundation, and recipient of an honorary degree on a recent visit to Carroll. Guest Director and Carroll Theatre Alumni Mr. Peter Ruzevitch from the Myrna Loy Center, leads a cast of seven, for an unforgettable night in the theatre.


Theatre for Children -"Charlottes Web"


Based on the classic and beloved book by E.B. White. April 16-17 & 24-25. Senior Kelly Clavin/Director with Kailey Portsmouth/Designer will help bring Wilbur, Charlotte and Templeton to our stage. In the PAC. Discount matinees for local schools will be April 20 - 23 @ 1 pm.


Theatre Alumni Reunion & "Carroll Theatre History"

May 6-7. Presented at the Old North Performing Arts Center. The history of Theatre at Carroll College, comes alive onstage. We invite all of our former students and faculty to review theatre at Carroll College from 1913 to present, in a multi-media show that includes archive photos, information, and reenactments of selected plays and music from our past. We will relive and celebrate the good works of the past and gather round the banquet table to share our lives with old friends, and to toast a bright future for the college, the theatre and the friends that we love.


 

Types of shows, Tickets/Prices/Policies

Because of our educational mission, we offer different types of shows suited to different audiences, in different theatres. The section below can clarify what is where. If you still have questions call the Director of Theatre, at 447-4309.


Types of Shows

Mainstage Shows feature full length plays & musicals presented to our highest standards. They are presented in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) or The Myrna Loy Center (MLC).

  1. Thursday -Saturday @ 7 pm. Sunday matinees @ 3 pm
    • Tickets: $11 General Admission @ PAC
      Students/Seniors $8.00
      Carroll Faculty and Staff FREE
      Carroll Students FREE on Thursdays and Sundays.
"Blithe Spirit" - 2008


Theatre for Children Shows. Theatre students present shows that are around an hour in length and appropriate for young audiences. They are presented in the Performing Arts Center (PAC).

  • Public performances:
    • Curtain is at 7:00 to allow for bedtime. Sunday  matinees are at 3:00.
    • Tickets: $6 General Admission, Children/Seniors $4
    • Carroll: Faculty/Staff FREE, Students FREE on Fridays.
  • School Matinees:
    • Curtain is at 1:00
    • Tickets: Children are $2, Teachers/Parents FREE
"The Three Musketeers" - Theatre for Children - Spring 2007


 


Student Showcases, One-Acts and Recitals Seniors in the Acting/Directing program showcase their abilities as Directors, Actors or Playwrights. Dance and Music students also perform. Admission is only $2 person, to pay royalty costs. Curtain is usually at 7:00.

"The Irish Murderer" -  Senior Showcase - Spring 2008


 Improv Nights in the Merton Michael McNeilly will lead our Improv Troupe in performances throughout the semester in the Merton Studio. Dates and times announced on this page. The Improv Troupe also performs at Montana schools and community events. Admission is usually pay-what-you will.

"Spoon River Anthology" by Charles Aidman, dramatic piece based on the work of Edgar Lee Masters. Staged by Theatre Director Chuck Driscoll with musical direction by Jodi Mattson.

Our Theatre spaces

Old North - The Performing Arts Center was built in 1916 as the college gymnasium. It was remodeled in the 1990's by theatre faculty and students into our temporary theatre. It is attached to St. Charles Hall on the North side opposite the library.

  • Seating - The PAC does not have assigned seating available. We can hold space for you if you call and leave your name and the number you need. Call 447-4304 and leave a message. We recommend you arrive early for the first choice of seats, we open the auditorium 1/2 hour before the show. 
  • Tickets - We do not pre-sell tickets, please purchase the night of performance. If you have any questions about the show or our theatre call our part-time student Box Office representatives at 447-4304, and they will call you back.
  • Show Night Parking- is available in the spaces outside the theatre, in the library lot and in the adjacent lots east of the theatre. 

 Merton & Davis Studios - These spaces are located in the basement of the Cube, below the dining room and Bookstore.

  • Seating - As studio spaces they have temporary seats only. Capacity is limited to about 70 chairs/audience members. Come early to sit in a chair! No late arrivals admitted.
  • Tickets - We do not pre-sell tickets, please purchase the night of performance. If you have any questions about the show or our theatre call our part-time student Box Office representatives at 447-4304, and they will call you back.
  • Show Night Parking is available in the lot of the CUBE.

    • Theatre & Music Scholarships - through the IMPACT campaign
    • Building, Travel & Activity Fund - to the Theatre Restricted account. To support student trips to theatre conferences & our Improv troupe.
    5) Non-financial donations:
    • costume pieces - boots & hats especially
    • props & weapons - swords, knives, guns. We modify them for stage safety.
    • furniture - chairs, tables, shelves, etc. Even if it is broken, it could be useful.
    • building materials - hardware, lumber, glue, etc.
    • tools - hand & power.
    • paint - latex mainly, all colors. No oil-base paint please.
    • we desperately need a new shop truck! Ours is 35 years old, and shows it.
