GREAT FALLS -- The Carroll College soccer team clinched the Frontier Conference championship outright Saturday, beating the University of Great Falls on the road, 4-0. The Saints, who improve to 13-4-1, were spearheaded offensively by Molly Clark, who scored two goals and crossed one assist.
"It was really windy up there, so I feel good about scoring in both halves and keeping Great Falls out of the scoring sheet," CC coach Dave Thorvilson said. "And we played about 20 players, so almost everyone got into the game."
Meghan O'Connell drew first blood, shaking the net in the fourth minute, assisted by Jordan Tipton. Clark then netted her two tallies, at 25 (assisted by Tayt Ellison) and 80 minutes (unassisted).
The Hilltoppers' Hannah Young closed out the scoring, in the 84th minute, with Clark providing the assist.
Carroll outshot the Argos, 11-5. Their defense was led by goalie Katie Beall, and defenders Lynnsey Janes and Katie Martin.
The Saints, who won their last six successive games, next host the Frontier/Dakota Conference championships, Friday and Saturday at Nelson Stadium. Three of the four teams participating will be Carroll, Westminster and Rocky. The fourth club will be either Jamestown or UGF, to be determined by Monday.
