Saints have plans for Westminster

The Carroll College volleyball team has a chance for redemption, and it's coming at the biggest time of the season. The Saints (18-9 overall, 8-6 conference) head to Lewiston, Idaho, today to play Westminster in the opening round of the Frontier Conference tournament.

Carroll lost to the same team one week ago in three sets, 28-26, 25-23, 25-23, ending their regular season on a disappointing note. Story

Carroll College spikers beat Montana Western

The Carroll College volleyball team emptied the bench as the Saints pounded the University of Montana Western Friday night 25-8, 25-15, 25-15, 25-19.

Every player saw game time as the Saints jumped to 17-6 overall, 7-3 in the Frontier Conference.

For the second game in a row, Carroll was missing junior middle hitter Christina Smetana, the team’s leading scorer, but it didn’t make much of a difference. The Saints turned to the outside where sophomore Sammy Priddy and freshman Kristin Telin dominated the net.

Priddy finished with 15 kills and 17 digs for a double-double while Telin crushed 11 kills at a .526 clip. Story

Saints spike Orediggers in straight sets

The ’Diggers didn’t dig enough, as the Carroll College volleyball team pulled off an evening — and season — sweep over Montana Tech Thursday.

The Saints won three straight from the Orediggers in conference action in the P.E. Center, 25-20, 25-18, 25-22. Carroll also won the first encounter between the two clubs earlier this season, giving Mo Boyle her first sweep over Tech in her four years as the Saints head coach.

“This is a great rivalry between these two teams, there’s a lot of emotion out there when we play them,” Boyle said. “For us to win both matches is quite a feat, especially since were without Christina Smetana tonight. But Mary Mahoney stepped in in Smet’s place and did a tremendous job.” Story

Carroll volleyball team takes on ’Diggers

A rivalry will be renewed when the Carroll College volleyball team hosts Montana Tech tonight at 7 p.m. in the Carroll P.E. Center.

The Saints (15-6 overall, 5-3 Frontier Conference) are looking to sweep the Orediggers (10-11, 2-6) for the first time in years. They beat Tech in five sets earlier this season, which was the first road win over the ’Diggers since Saints senior outside hitter Nicole Rowan was only a freshman.

“It’s been three years and it’s huge,” Rowan said. “They have a big crowd, a lot of fans and it’s one of the toughest places to play.

“Winning that match set the tone for the rest of the first half of our season.” Story

Bears volleyball tops Saints in five-set battle

The Carroll College volleyball team went five sets with Rocky Mountain College but couldn't break past the Bears in a 25-19, 14-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-10 loss Thursday night in the Carroll P.E. Center.

The Saints (15-6 overall, 5-3 Frontier Conference) were hoping to avenge a humiliating three-set loss to Rocky at the start of the conference season and finished with more kills and more blocks than the opposition. But, they couldn't get the points when they needed them the most.  more
