Federal Work Study

Federal Work Study is an opportunity for employment for students demonstrating financial need.  Students work a part time job on campus, or for certain approved off-campus employers.

In general, work study is:

Earn-as-you-go-aid- Students earn money as they work the hours, rather than a single lump sum.

Flexible for Students- On average, students work 10-12 hours per week.  Employers often allow flexibility to accommodate class schedules.

Not credited towards tuition- Students receive monthly paychecks for hours worked.

Applying for Federal Work Study

Students must file a FAFSA and demonstrate financial need to be considered for Federal Work Study.  Work study eligible students will be notified in their financial aid award.

Student Perspectives

Megan Rennie, a senior from Boulder, Montana, always wanted to attend Carroll, but cost was definitely an issue.  Carroll's combination of scholarships, grants, and work-study put the college of her dreams within reach.

"The financial aid definitely made it easier to come to Carroll." she says.  Megan notes that Carroll's Financial Aid Office was patient and helpful in walking her and her mom through the sometimes confusing process of applying for financial aid.

In addition to several grants, Megan qualified for work-study.  In addition to a paycheck, her work-study job has given her marketable office skills while teaching her plenty about the business of procuring and distributing money.
