GoalIn accordance with the Carroll College Mission Statement, the Library Research Skills Component of English 102 will prepare students to find and evaluate information, and plan and conduct library research.
Objectives
  • Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate and distinguish different levels of information
  • Demonstrate the ability to use library catalogs and databases
  • Become familiar with library classification systems
  • Develop research methodology skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to select appropriate resources
  • Document information sources using standard style manuals

AssignmentsFive in-class exercises will be assigned. You are encouraged to work on weekly assignments with a study partner. A Papers/Bibliography page explains that assignment, which is not a group or partner assignment.
Papers/Annotated bibliographies are due November 19 2008. There will be a final quiz.

Grading

Grades will be calculated as follows:

Completion of weekly assignments (5) 525. Late weekly assignments will be marked down 10% each day they are late for five days. You will get no credit for homework I receive later than five days late.  
 Last session quiz 100. No make-up exam will be given  
 Annotated bibliography and short paper (2 pages) 326.  No bib will be accepted late

Final grades will be submitted to your EN102 instructor. The work that you do for the library research component of EN 102 is worth 15% of your final EN102 grade.
