Latest Updates:

Clean Access has been updated to 4.7.1.511

We have just updated Clean Access to the latest version and have confirmed that Windows 7 is working. Snow Leopard should be working as well though we have not been able to test that yet.

It looks like AVG is going to be forcing people to upgrade to 9.0. For now ignore that until it doesn't give you a choice and when it does remove AVG and install the Microsoft Security Essentials listed below to continue working. To get help with that call an RTA or bring your machine into CCIT.

Microsoft Security Essentials AV Supported

Microsoft Security Essentials is free Anti Virus from Microsoft and has been performing very well so far.

It can be downloaded from:

New printer in the Library

There is a new printer in the library.  It's a multifunction Xerox and it will eventually replace the 2 Dell printers.  It will print both black and white and color and it will do copies and scans.  Check out the files below for more information.

AVG 9 and Webroot 6.1 don't work with ResNet

If you are using AVG or Webroot for antivirus on your computer, do NOT upgrade them to the latest version.  The new versions will not be recognized by Cisco NAC and you will NOT be able to logon to ResNet.  Cisco is working on updates for their client so it will recognize these versions.

Windows Vista Blue Screen Problem - Solution

If you use Windows Vista and are experiencing a Blue Screen that crashes your computer, please try following the steps in this Microsoft article KB973879.  If you would like help, contact an RTA or stop by the CCIT office with your laptop.

Access Your X Drive and Print Documents

Don't forget to check out the VPN access link on the left to get instructions on how to setup a secured VPN tunnel from ResNet. The VPN tunnel will allow you to access your X drive and print from your dorm room.

Current Network Services:

There are many ways to be connected on campus, and we'll outline all of them here. The highlights:

  • Get Help: You're also always connected to help services when you have a problem or question. Check out our help section to learn more about your Resident Technical Assistants and help desk hours. We also keep an updated FAQ section.
  • Get an Account: A Carroll account is the best way to stay connected. The account allows you to log on in all campus labs, to receive emails of important academic information, and to access student-only features on the web.
  • Get Email: Do you need to know how to get your email on the web, use POP3 or IMAP to check it, or find out your email box size limit? Then we've got answers.
  • Get on ResNet: If you plan to have your own computer in the resident halls, you'll want to connect to ResNet to have internet access including access to email and printing.
  • Get Wireless: The newest way to stay connected on campus is wireless. Wireless is currently available in most public areas.
  • Access your X drive and Print from off-campus or ResNet: You can get to your Carroll network drives, print to various printers as well as our internal library features from off-campus or ResNet via our Virtual Private Network (VPN). Download the instructions to learn how.
  • Print from the wireless network: You can print from your laptop when you're on our wireless network, but you'll need Windows with Internet Explorer.
  • Get Your Game Console on the Network: In order to use a video game console (Microsoft XBox, XBox 360, Sony Playstation 2, Playstation 3, or Nintendo Wii) or DVR Devices (TiVo) on Carroll's network, you must register the console's MAC address.

Suggestions:

Are there other anti-virus programs that you would like Carroll to allow?  We're open to suggestion... just fill out the form below and we'll definitely consider it!

What about anti-virus programs?

In order to get on the Internet, the Clean Access program will check to see if you are current on Windows Updates and have up-to-date antivirus software installed (Windows only).

Several antivirus programs now come bundled in suites that include a firewall.  The firewall may interfere with ResNet and you may need to disable it to get connected - the antivirus piece will continue to work.

Windows users must be using one of the following antivirus programs to get access to ResNet and the Internet.  Mac users do not need antivirus installed, but still need to install the Clean Access program.

Currently supported AV software:

(Any current version should work unless otherwise stated)

  • Microsoft Security Essentials
  • AVG
  • McAfee
  • Symantec/Norton
  • Computer Associates
  • Trend Micro
  • Sophos
  • ESET NOD32
  • Panda
  • Avast
  • Avira
  • Webroot Antivirus
