Guest Lecture: Special guest speaker Dave Bruno presents "How Stuff Moves: The Consumer Journey," at 7:30 p.m. in Trinity Hall lounge. Free and open to the public, this is part of the Helena Education Foundation's Great Conversations event. Is it possible to avoid participating in consumer culture? Find out in this discussion led by entrepreneur and author Dave Bruno, creator of "The 100 Thing Challenge," a personal experiment where he is attempting to remove himself from consumer culture by living one year with only 100 personal possessions (and in this economy, that's about all anyone can afford!). Bruno is publishing a book on the subject with Harper Perennial in 2009. Learn more about this and other Great Conversations events at http://www.hefmt.org/.Carroll College's "Up Til Dawn" fund-raiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will be holding its annual all-team meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 18 (from 5 to 9 p.m.) and Nov. 19 (from 6 to 9 p.m.), in the lower level of the Campus Center. To help the kids of St. Jude, faculty, staff and students are welcome to come down and send out letters to 50 people you know (or as many names as you can supply) asking for support of the cause. Free food and prize drawings throughout both evenings! For more info, contact Mason Preiss at (406) 431-6837 or email mpreiss -is-at- carroll -dot- edu.

Formal Etiquette Dinner - Sign up!
Do You Slurp Your Soup? Formal Etiquette Dinner for Senior Students
Don't know a fork from a faux pas? Attend Carroll College's second Professional Etiquette Dinner for Senior Students to learn what it takes to make a great first impression and how to navigate through a formal dinner with style.
The meal will be preceded by a networking session in which participants get to practice juggling hors d'oeuvres and punch while greeting people and carrying on conversation. Networking tips will be given during this part of the program. Local professionals and alumni will be there to provide an opportunity for students to practice networking skills.
During the meal, students will learn the basics of proper dining from use of the napkin, silverware, and glassware to what to do at the conclusion of the meal. During the multi-course meal, a speaker versed in proper etiquette will guide participants through the fine dining experience. Attempts will be made to seat each student at a table with someone in a profession/occupation closely related to the student's major.
This fun and exciting event, sponsored by Career Services, the Office of Alumni Relations, Student Activities, Sodexho Corporation, and local businesses is intended to help graduating seniors acquire skills that will facilitate the transition to professional life. Each student attendee will be presented with a copy of the book, Life After Graduation, by Terry Arndt. The book is a popular guide to a variety of transitional issues faced by graduating college students.
Interested? The Etiquette Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 6:00 PM in All Saints Hall.
Seating for the dinner is limited. To register, email your name, academic major/intended career goal and phone contact number to: careers -is-at- carroll -dot- edu
Get your Yearbook
The Year Book is back!
Faculty, Staff, and Students - Sign up for your Yearbook now!
If you did not already know, the Hilltopper was Carroll's Yearbook in years past and now it is back just in time for our Centennial.
On Wednesday August 27th, at the annual Club Fair held in the Upper Cube from 6-8 pm you can make a $10 deposit to reserve your Yearbook and by ordering early we will personalize it for you!
It will be a huge benefit to you and us if you sign up early for your Yearbook. If we can get at least 300 people to sign up early this will enable us to add pages and quality to the book. It also could lower the cost of your Yearbook. We estimate the cost at around $60.00 but it could be as low as $50.00. Your early order will help increase the quality of our book and possibly drop the price. That is what we call a "Win, Win" situation.
So do yourself and us a favor and sign up for your Yearbook on Wednesday night.
It'll be an exciting night for the Yearbook and its staff, so I hope to see you there!!!
Thanks, Robyn Swaney - CC Year Book Editor
