Purpose of ASSET

ASSET is a placement exam developed by American College Testing (ACT). ASSET helps you and our Admission Office maximize your opportunities for success at Carroll College. ASSET helps the school use our educational resources more efficiently by providing accurate information about your current knowledge and skills. We will use this information to guide you toward classes that strengthen and build logically upon your current level of competence.

How does ASSET work?
ASSET consists of tests in basic writing, reading, and numerical skills. [Note: Carroll requires only these three tests; we do not require the Algebra or other tests offered by ASSET.] ASSET is not used like a traditional test. There are no "passing scores". Rather, your ASSET scores indicate areas in which you are strong and areas in which you need help and helps us decide in which level of courses to place you when you enter Carroll. In this way, ASSET can identify problems in major subject areas before they disrupt your educational progress, which gives you the opportunity to prepare more effectively for your courses. Carroll and your academic advisor can use your scores from ASSET to prepare a course of study that is appropriate, relevant, and meaningful to you
