rights & responsibilities

It is the goal of Health Services to provide the most complete care possible, while enabling students to act on their own behalf, accepting responsibility for their personal health and welfare.

Carroll College Health Services views each student contact as an opportunity for education regarding health issues and lifestyle behaviors consistent with the goal of individual and community health.  In order to create an environment where the attainment of such goals will be possible, the following guidelines and responsibilities have been established:

The Student Wellness Center, Health Services will provide an environment which is non-judgmental and caring, creating an atmosphere of trust and comfort while ensuring confidentiality.  When provided such an environment, students will respond openly and honestly which ultimately ensures a high level of care.

With each interaction a holistic approach will be made, attempting to encompass physical, emotional and social aspects of health care.  Students are encouraged to verbalize their preferences in regard to health care approaches.

In order to provide a forum for open and honest discussion, an atmosphere of mutual respect where providers are sensitive and understanding to diverse needs will be cultivated.  Students are to conduct themselves in a respectful and appropriate manner.

Patient records and information are treated confidentially and disclosure of any personal information will follow all federal guidelines. Students have the right to access their health records upon request.

Students are presented with information regarding services available at the Wellness Center and how to access them.  Fees are clearly posted and students have access to that information at all times.  Students have the right to refuse treatment, but at the same time accept responsibility for not complying with recommended treatment.

When Health Services staff are presented with health issues falling outside the scope of services covered at the Wellness Center, a student has the right to expect that care will be transferred to an appropriate provider, or that a referral will be made.  Students have the responsibility to follow through with such referrals.
